Melanie came to Corn Crib Natural Foods in 2013 — a year after the Saint John store opened. She had just moved back from Charlottetown, PEI to her hometown of Saint John. “I was ecstatic that Saint John finally had a successful natural nutrition store. I had been into nutrition since I was fifteen, so I was excited to start work here.”

She’s been the manager of the Saint John store since 2014 and works with 3 other staff. “The Saint John store is a bit different than the Moncton Corn Crib store. All the stores curate our products to the demands of our customers and Saint John is really interested in supplements and health and beauty products.”

Similar to the other stores, Melanie and her staff get real satisfaction in helping people feel better. “There’s often very private sharing that goes on when it comes to health. We spend a lot of time with each customer, helping them to understand what the product is, how it can help, and what they can expect from it. So, when customers come back and say they haven’t felt so well in years… it’s the best feeling!”

Without the strong focus on foods of the Moncton store, the space is smaller and has a trendier vibe. “Before we opened up, there was no other retail location to get natural health information. I had a background in natural nutrition from working in naturopathic clinics. We are all constantly learning, researching sharing information with each other and the other stores. We also have wonderful training from Natural Health Practitioners working with our suppliers.”
Melanie is excited and pleased to see the Saint John store’s clientele is steadily growing. “We’ve expanded our space and made room for nutritional practitioners, including an holistic practitioner who comes in once a month to offer consultations. Our goal is to make natural health accessible to everyone.”
